Centennial Celebration
In 2010, United Church of Chapel Hill will mark its Centennial Anniversary.
It is an exciting time for this congregation, a time for celebration and of thanksgiving for God's guiding hand. The celebration of this important milestone provides us the opportunity to discover and share our church’s story and blessings – within the church and within our wider community. Celebration stands at the very center of our lives.
The Centennial Committee, chaired by Amy Cutrell and Gates Vrooman, is planning a variety of events to mark the occasion:
- Music celebration with organ concert by Alex Anderson: November 13.
- Centennial Cookbook sale at the Alternative Christmas Market: Saturday and Sunday, November 21 and 22.
- Music celebration with brass and handbells: December 6.
- New Year's Eve Concert to benefit IFC (Bradshaw Quartet w/ Christen Campbell): December 31.
- Construction of commemorative shadowboxes by the UCCH boards: Wednesdays, January 10, 13, 20, and 27.
- "Light Up Your Winter" series, Futures Committee, Introduction to being intentional about our future in ministry: Wednesday, January 6.
- "Light Up Your Winter" series, Speaker Ferrel Guillory, Davidson professor of public policy: Wednesday, January 13.
- "Light Up Your Winter" series, Speaker Mark Chaves, Duke professor and director of the National Congregations Survey: Wednesday, January 20.
- Weekend Speaker David Greenhaw, president of Eden Theological Seminary: Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24.
- "Light Up Your Winter" series, Futures Committee, Charting a course for United Church's new century: Wednesday, January 27.
- Communion cloth dedication: Sunday, February 28.
- Music celebration with the Chancel Choir (Faure Requiem): Sunday, March 21.
- CROP Walk with 100 UCCH walkers: Sunday, March 21.
- Presentation of commemorative shadowboxes by the UCCH boards:Sundays, April 11, 18, 25, and May 2.
- Music celebration with the Chamber Singers: Sunday, April 25.
- Music celebration with Crooked Creek: Sunday, May 2.
- Cameron Avenue sanctuary tea and plaque dedication: Sunday, May 16.
