Adult Christian Education

We believe that Christian Education is a lifelong venture that includes struggling with scripture and the stories of our faith that challenge us to be in right relationship with God and our community. We seek to offer meaningful Christian Education programs for every stage of life.

Adult Christian Education Opportunities

Sundays at 10:00

Faith Explorations (Classroom off Fellowship Hall)

The Faith Explorations class is a class created and led by Young Adults. All, whether or not you are a Young Adult, are welcome and encouraged to attend. Topics will include: Current Issues in Faith, The Shaping of Our Spirit, and, back by popular demand, "Popcorn Theology". We will use articles, literature, and films as the basis for our class discussions. Please join us for some interesting discussions.

Turnings Toward Spiritual Growth (Library)

Marion Wilson will be convening a class in which we will consider what it is that we really believe: about God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Humanity, the Church, the Dominion of God, and our Ministry. We will use as a jumping off place a book by Elaine Pagels called, Beyond Belief. We will also consider the texts of other gospels, known as the Gnostic Gospels, that are not included in the official canon.

Come with an open mind and heart to share your beliefs, to learn with and from others and to explore the limits of your understanding of the issues involved in the faith that we each have inherited from our forebears. Each person's contribution to the discussion will be accepted as a gift and received with respect We will have opportunities to listen to music, meditate and do some artwork, drawing mandalas to facilitate understanding.

Parenting Group (Parlor)

The Parenting Group explores topics related to parenting. This year we plan to focus on how to: involve children in worship; maintain your identity as a parent; and discuss different kinds of families with your child. We also plan to talk about the spiritual lives of teenagers and issues related to sexuality. Join us as we struggle with the joys and challenges of parenthood.

Adult Forum (Fellowship Hall)

A variety of current topics of interest are discussed in Adult Forum. Topics may be discussed for one week only or in short series. Richard Edens leads this forum with a number of invited guest speakers. See a current newsletter or This Week to learn about upcoming topics or speakers.
