Fellowship at United Church

There are many opportunities for fellowship throughout the church year - from coffee hour every Sunday following our worship services to our many special events and programs.

Below are Fellowship happenings for our new church year, August 2010 through June 2011

Welcome Back to United Church
August 29, Welcome back barbecue.

All of the boards of the church are on hand to provide information on opportunities to serve, learn and enjoy fellowship. This also marks the start of the new church school year for children and youth.

Fall Retreat at Blowing Rock Conference Center
October 15-17
Members of the church family go to the Blowing Rock Assembly Ground set amid the fall splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Wednesday Evening Dinners

Jan. 5, 12, 19, 26 “Light Up Your Winter”
Feb. 16, 23, 30, Mar. 6, 13 “Lenten Series”
Join us each of these weeks for table fellowship at 5:45 pm. Meals are catered and child care will be provided during the program times from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm All meals feature good food and good fellowship!

Stone Soup
November 14, following the 11 am worship service
Following the example of the classic folktale, the Fellowship Board invites the church goers to bring vegetables, beans, etc…to mix together in a big pot of soup to serve the entire congregation. This year’s Stone Soup is in celebration of Stewardship Sunday.

Coffee Hour and Refreshment Hosts
Following the 8:45 and 11 am worship services, members and friends of United Church are invited to coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall to meet and greet one another over refreshments.
Do you want to be a refreshment host for one of our coffee hours? Sign up for a date and time on clipboards found in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays.

Cluster Dinners
Dates to be announced
Cluster dinners are organized once or twice a year in members’ homes to allow small group fellowship. Watch your bulletin for the cluster dinner announcements.

Advent & Christmas
The church boards join together to sponsor a number of educational, fellowship, worship and outreach activities to enhance our understanding of the meaning of the season.

Christmas Dinner & Carol Sing
Dec. 15  at 5:45 p.m.
Fellowship Hall
The Fellowship Board invites the entire church congregation to a fabulous, festive, home-made dinner with music provided by the Ambassadors Jazz Band under the leadership of Bob Lawton, Director of Instrumental Music. This is one fellowship event not to be missed. Children are always delighted with the evening’s special guest all the way from the North Pole. Following the dinner, the Chancel Choir invites all who wish to join them for carols.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
March 8
Fellowship Hall
Shrove Tuesday is “Mardi Gras” or “fat” Tuesday and is the last day before Lent begins. It is an evening to celebrate and eat pancakes and fatty foods in preparation for the Lenten fasts. Bring bacon, sausage, fruit, or other goodies and eat all of the pancakes you want.

Spring Beach Retreat
May 28-30, Memorial Day Weekend
Sunset Beach
This is a chance to enjoy the sun, surf, and one another’s company in an all-congregation event. We stay in rented cottages, have an outdoor Sunday worship service on the beach, and enjoy optional “group eatings”.
