Refugee Resettlement Service at United Church
On August 20, 2009, we welcomed a new Karen family from Burma who had been living in a Thai refugee camp for several years. This family is the third in three years that UCCH has sponsored. The intensive initial involvement of our church to meet immediate needs of the new family does not end in the short term. Earlier arrivals continue to be part of our church family. We continue supporting our families with short term needs, mentoring them to navigate the formal immigration/citizenship process, teaching them English, and eventually becoming their friends. Frequent home visits by our congregants insure that our sponsored families become well integrated in our communities.
