BUILDING HOPE 2011
For over 30 years, United Church of Chapel Hill has been involved with the Orange County Habitat for Humanity. This ministry has not only built homes, it also has built dreams for many families in our community. This fall, that ministry will continue. Begininnig on Sept 17th, UCCH will be partnering with St. Thomas More, the Newman Center, Holy Trinity, Hillsong Baptist, Community Church UU, and Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to build a home with the family of Emma and Melvin Council. Our partnership is nicknamed Building Hope.
We will work on Saturdays, usually in two shifts, morning and afternoon. Construction will continue through the fall. We are looking for volunteers to work both shifts and help out with lunches for workers on both shifts. Please contact office@unitedchurch.org for more information or click here "VOLUNTEER NOW" to send an email to Dennis Pagano, the Building Hope project coordinator for United Church.
Covenant Place is a 40-unit facility of supportive housing that was developed by a partnership between United Church of Chapel Hill, New Covenant Christian UCC and the United Church Retirement Homes. It is underwritten by a program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development that offers assistance to senior citizens (62+) whose income is under $20,000.
Shepherd House is a 66-bed assisted living facility developed by the same partnership. It is now managed by Salem Senior Services, but its mission continues to be as a place of care inclusive of those with economic need.
