Sunday School for Children
Children begin Church School when they are 3 years old. Each of our eight classes is led by a teacher team of at least three volunteers. All the classes use the same curriculum, “Rock Solid,” so that each week all the children learn the same Bible story in age-appropriate ways. Over the course of the year, children will study significant stories from both the Old and New Testaments. The curriculum comes with a take-home flyer, so that parents can stay engaged in and informed about their child’s Church School experience.
Stewardship is an important part of our Church School program. Each week the children are invited to bring in an offering - sometimes money and sometimes a special offering such as peanut butter or pasta for the Interfaith Council’s ministry with the homeless and working poor. There are several offering themes per year.
In the 2009-2010 year, the children have collected food and backpacks for TABLE, a local organization that supplies groceries to hungry children. They have also collected coins for UNICEF, and Church World Service hygiene kit items and money for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. For the Easter offering, the children will collect funds for One Great Hour of Sharing.
The classes are grouped as follows: 3-year-olds; 4-year-olds; Kindergarten; First; Second; Third; Fourth and Fifth Grades (combined).
